Increased Demand for Synthetic Drugs in Europe

Europe is facing an increase in the use of synthetic drugs, according to the European Drug Report 2025. The report highlights the growing use of synthetic cathinones, nitazenes, and cannabinoids. Nitazenes are linked to increased overdose incidents.
Cocaine use is also increasing, with record seizures of 419 tons in 2023, changing trafficking routes and fueling violence.
Greece is responding with the establishment of ΕΟΠΑΕ and the development of a unified National Strategy, as explained by Mr. Athanasios Theocharis, National Coordinator for Addiction Treatment in Greece.
