Austria: Man Survives Hanging onto High-Speed Train

A 24-year-old Algerian man survived after clinging to a high-speed train in Austria. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the man was found outside the train at Sankt Pölten station, west of Vienna, after going out for a smoke.
According to Austrian Railways spokesman Herbert Hofer, the man began banging on the windows, forcing the train driver to activate the emergency brake. The crew boarded him, and the train continued its journey to Vienna with a slight delay.
The man had climbed into the space between two carriages after failing to board normally. At Meidling station in Vienna, he was handed over to the police. Hofer called his action "irresponsible," emphasizing the dangers involved in such an act.
Railjet trains have a maximum speed of 230 km/h. A passenger reported that the conductor reprimanded the man.
