Austria: Five Skiers Killed in Avalanches
Five skiers died in Austria on Saturday, victims of avalanches in the Austrian Alps. The incidents occurred in areas with heavy snowfall.
In the Pongau region of Salzburg, an avalanche struck a group of seven skiers, killing four and seriously injuring one. An hour and a half earlier, another avalanche swept away a skier, who was fatally injured.
The severe weather conditions have caused at least nine deaths in the Alps in the past week. The victims include a 13-year-old Czech boy and a 58-year-old skier in Tyrol.
In Switzerland, a German man was killed and four others were injured, while in France, six skiers lost their lives last weekend.
