A BBC investigation has uncovered an international network sharing videos of cat torture online. This network reportedly consists of thousands of members who publish, share, and sell images and videos of cats being injured and killed.

The investigation followed an incident in Ruislip, London, where two teenagers tortured and mutilated kittens. A 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy confessed to the act.

Police are investigating connections to a wider network of cat torturers operating worldwide, including in the United Kingdom. The Feline Guardians group has recorded 24 groups active this year, with the largest having over 1,000 members. One person has allegedly filmed the torture and murder of more than 200 cats.

In a UK-based group, members discuss how to obtain cats for abuse, even from the RSPCA. Videos and photos show cats being drowned and electrocuted. Perpetrators explain how they use electrocution to prolong the pain.

Many children are involved in these groups. In September 2023, a "100 Cat Killings" contest was held. Lara from Feline Guardians is calling on authorities to address the groups, while Ian Briggs of the RSPCA called the abuse unacceptable.
