Denmark: Newborn Removed from Mother Due to Abuse History

A newborn girl was removed from her mother in Denmark just one hour after birth. Authorities cited a "parental fitness" test, despite a ban on their use for citizens of Greenlandic descent.
The 18-year-old mother, Ivana Nicoline Bruunlund, gave birth to her daughter, Aviaaja-Luna, on August 11 at Hvidovre Hospital near Copenhagen.
Authorities informed Bruunlund that the baby was removed due to trauma she suffered from her stepfather, who is serving a prison sentence for sexual abuse against her. The case has sparked reactions in Greenland, and mobilizations have been planned.
Danish Minister for Social Affairs, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, expressed concern and requested explanations from the Municipality of Høje-Taastrup.
Bruunlund is only allowed to see her child twice a month, for two hours each time, under supervision. Her appeal will be examined on September 16.
