EU Accepts Trump's 10% Tariff Under Conditions – Seeks Exemptions

The European Union is willing to accept a trade agreement with the United States that includes a uniform 10% tariff on many of its exports to the US, but is seeking exemptions for key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, alcohol, semiconductors, and commercial aircraft.
The EU is also pushing for quotas and exemptions, aiming to reduce the 25% tariffs on cars and parts and the 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum. It has until July 9 to reach an agreement with Donald Trump.
The EU is preparing countermeasures in case negotiations fail, including tariffs on US products worth 21 billion euros, which can be implemented immediately in response to tariffs on metals. These target politically sensitive US states and include products like soybeans from Louisiana.
EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will lead a delegation to Washington to advance the talks.
