EU Considers Lowering Taxes on Electricity

The European Commission is considering proposals to lower taxes on electricity as part of a package of measures to address rising energy prices.

Following the Eurogroup teleconference, European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stated that proposals were also submitted for tax interventions on fuels, similar to those used during the 2022 energy crisis.

Mr. Dombrovskis emphasized that member states have the possibility to take different measures, but the fiscal space for maneuvering is limited compared to the past.
