Flu Surge in Europe: Increased Vigilance in Cyprus

A strong flu wave is sweeping across Europe, with Britain recording a significant increase in hospitalizations and pressure on the National Health Service (NHS). According to Greek media, hospitalizations in Britain have increased by 55% in one week.
Dr. Petros Karagiannis, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Nicosia, points out that it is the same seasonal flu strain, with increased transmissibility due to reduced immunity. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, cough, and sore throat.
Of particular concern is the increased incidence in children and young people. An increased number of cases are being recorded in Greece and other European countries, as well as in the USA and Japan.
Dr. Karagiannis warns that the flu is expected to reach Cyprus, especially during the holiday season, due to travel. He recommends vaccination to reduce symptoms.
