Fire in Eordaia Ptolemaida Ongoing – High Risk in 15 Regions

The fire in Eordaia Ptolemaida is ongoing, with firefighters operating on a ridge. The Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Giorgos Amanatidis, and the Deputy Regional Governor, Lyssandros Metaxas, are at the fire fronts in Pontokomi and Livera.
The situation worsened after 2:00 PM on Sunday when the flames approached Egnatia Odos, resulting in the precautionary closure of traffic in both directions. 52 firefighters are operating at the scene with the assistance of the Region of Western Macedonia.
The fire in Serres is partially under control, while there is no active front in Evia, Messinia, Laconia, and Kythira.
In the last 24 hours, 55 agricultural and forestry fires broke out, 50 of which were dealt with immediately. A very high risk of fire is predicted today in 15 regions, including Attica, Western Greece, the Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, and Crete.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be especially careful and avoid actions that could cause a fire due to negligence.
