EMY Issues Weather Warning: Cold Wave and Snowfall

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an emergency weather warning, forecasting a rapid deterioration of the weather from Sunday afternoon (11-01-26). Snowfall is expected in mountainous, semi-mountainous, and lowland areas of northern Greece.
Very low temperatures will prevail until Wednesday morning (14-01-26). Frost, locally severe in the north, will occur during the morning and evening hours. Very strong to gale-force northerly winds will blow locally until the evening hours of Monday (12-01-26).
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be particularly careful and take self-protection measures against the risks arising from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.
Where it will snow:
- In the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of mainland Greece and Evia.
- From nightfall in lowland areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in the regional units of Serres and Halkidiki, in the eastern parts of Thessaloniki, as well as on the islands of the northern Aegean (Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Sporades).
- From early Monday morning in lowland areas of Evia (mainly in its eastern parts) and in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the Cyclades and Crete.
Snowfall will stop before noon on Monday (12-01-26) in the north and from the afternoon hours in the remaining areas, except for the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Crete, where it will continue until the morning of Tuesday (13-01-26).
