Greece: Wildfires Erupt in Zakynthos, Chios, Achaia, and Other Regions (August 12)

Firefighting forces in Greece are battling blazes in various regions of the country, including Zakynthos, Achaia, Chios, Aitoloakarnania, and Preveza, on August 12. Citizens have received 112 alerts for evacuations.

Zakynthos: In Agalas, firefighters are trying to save homes. According to Mayor Giorgos Stasinopoulos, the fire has caused damage to houses. The flames are also heading towards the village of Keri.

Achaia: 112 alerts have been sent for the evacuation of settlements. Traffic is disrupted from the VIPE junction to the Patras - Tripoli national road.

Chios: A 112 alert was sent to evacuate the areas of Pispilounta and Nea Potamia towards Volissos.

Arta and Preveza: Fire fronts are near the communities of Dafnoti Palaiochoriou in Tzoumerka and Ammotopos in Arta, as well as Gymnotopos in the Municipality of Zitou in Preveza. In Gymnotopos, the flames entered the settlement and houses are threatened. Traffic on the Ionia Odos has been preventively stopped.

Aitoloakarnania: A fire broke out in Stamna. A 112 alert was sent for evacuation towards Messolonghi.

Vonitsa: A fire is burning in the Paliamabela area. One house has burned down.
