Tensions in Albanian Parliament: Clashes and Protests
Tensions prevailed in the Albanian Parliament, with deputies involved in clashes and protesting against corruption allegations against the Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku.
According to reports, opposition deputies clashed with police, lit smoke bombs, and threw water, disrupting the session. The protests concern corruption charges related to Balluku, who is alleged to have favored companies in infrastructure projects.
The Special Prosecutor's Office has requested the lifting of Balluku's immunity, with Parliament expected to vote on the matter tomorrow, Friday. Balluku herself has rejected the charges as false.
Sali Berisha, leader of the opposition Democratic Party, stated that "there can be no Parliament with those who steal."
