Severe Weather: Second Wave of Storms – Which Areas Will Be Affected

The second wave of severe weather is underway, affecting many areas of the country since Thursday afternoon (12/02). According to the updated bulletin from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds will last until Friday morning (13/02).
According to meteo.gr, the deterioration is due to the passage of a barometric low from Italy to the Aegean Sea. Rains and thunderstorms are occurring in the Ionian Islands and western mainland Greece, and will extend further east.
Specifically:
- Western and southern Peloponnese, Ionian Islands: Until the early morning hours of Friday.
- Crete and Cyclades: During the night from Thursday to Friday.
- Dodecanese and islands of the northern and eastern Aegean: Friday until the morning hours.
- Thrace: Briefly on Friday morning.
Very strong winds will blow in western Greece and the southern Aegean.
Weekend Forecast:
On Saturday (14/02), clouds with local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the west, north, and eastern Aegean. On Sunday (15/02), clouds with local rain and sporadic thunderstorms in the Ionian Islands, western, central and northern mainland, and the northeastern Aegean. Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust to the central and southern regions.
