European Parliament Approves Plan to Improve Access to Abortion

The European Parliament has approved a plan aimed at widening women's access to safe and legal abortions throughout the European Union.
With 358 votes in favor, 202 against, and 79 abstentions, MEPs supported a non-binding proposal to create a European solidarity mechanism. This mechanism could finance access to abortion services for women who cannot legally access them in their own country and are forced to travel to other member states.
The European Citizens' Initiative 'My Voice, My Choice,' which gathered over 1.1 million signatures, proposed the creation of a funding mechanism to ensure access to safe and legal abortion throughout the EU.
