Finnish MP Found Dead in Parliament

A Finnish Member of Parliament has been found dead inside the Finnish Parliament building. Initial reports suggest suicide.

The MP, Emeli Peltonen, of the Social Democratic Party, passed away at the age of 30. He had announced via Facebook in June that he was facing health problems.

Helsinki police reported that the call to the emergency center was made at 11:06 a.m. (local time) and that the case is not related to criminal activity.

The Finnish newspaper Iltalehti reported that it was a suicide inside the Parliament building. The Security Director of Parliament, Aaro Toivonen, stated that he does not dispute the information.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo expressed his grief over the event and asked for a moment of silence in his memory.
