Fires in Western Greece and Chios: Devastating Scenes

Widespread damage has been caused by the fires that broke out in Western Greece and Chios. Houses, cars, businesses and forests have been turned to ashes.

The fires are ongoing in Achaia, Preveza, Zakynthos, Chios and Kefalonia. Firefighters and volunteers are trying to contain the fronts, with the help of aerial means.

Messages from 112 were sent for evacuations in Patras, Zakynthos, Preveza, Arta and Chios. The Karamanlaneio Children's Hospital and the Konstantopouleio Nursing Home in Patras were evacuated.

The damage is extensive, with thousands of acres burned.
