A 50-year-old woman in France has admitted to placing two newborn babies in a freezer, according to the prosecutor of Besançon, Cédric Logelin. The infants were found in Haute-Saône, eastern France.

The woman confessed that she gave birth alone at home between 2011 and 2018, wrapped the babies, and placed them in the freezer. She had hidden her pregnancies from those around her.

During questioning, the 50-year-old expressed remorse for the children and her family. A family member discovered one infant on Tuesday in Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont. The woman has nine children from three different fathers and had left home in December.

Police found the second baby in the same freezer. The mother was arrested in the Paris region and is charged with murder. Her partner, who was also detained, claims he knew nothing about the pregnancies.

An autopsy of the infants will be conducted on Friday to determine the cause of death. The mayor of the community expressed shock at the incident.
