France: Bayrou Holds Meetings Before Confidence Vote – Any Hope?

French Prime Minister François Bayrou is in a difficult position ahead of the confidence vote on September 8. He is holding meetings with leaders of various parties, including the Communists, Place Publique, the National Rally (RN), the Republicans (LR), Renaissance, MoDem, and Horizons.

Despite his efforts, most opposition parties have announced they will vote against the government. Even within the governing bloc, there are rifts, with Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau calling on the Republicans to support the Prime Minister.

The Greens and La France Insoumise (LFI) refused to participate in the talks, while the Socialists have stated that they expect Bayrou's resignation. The LIOT group announced that the majority of its members will not vote in favor.

Euronews reports that, barring a dramatic reversal, François Bayrou appears to be heading for defeat, signaling political uncertainty for France.
