France: Over 1,000 Cars Burned on New Year's Eve

More than 1,000 cars were torched in France during New Year's Eve, according to the Ministry of the Interior. Over 400 people were arrested.
In total, 505 people were apprehended, with 403 being arrested and detained. The ministry noted that the night was 'calmer' compared to 2025, with fewer urban disturbances.
The number of vehicles burned increased to 1,173, compared to 984 the previous year. Authorities reported fewer disturbances in the suburbs and fewer attacks against law enforcement.
Police officers were targeted by fireworks in cities such as Nice, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Rennes. Approximately 90,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized, including 10,000 in Paris and its suburbs.
In Paris, 125 people were arrested and detained for various offenses, including violence and drug possession.
