France: Over 1000 Cars Torched on New Year's Eve

Over 1,000 vehicles were torched and over 500 people were detained in France during New Year's Eve, according to the Ministry of Interior.
In total, 505 people were detained, with 403 cases resulting in arrests and remand in custody. The ministry described the night as 'calmer' than 2025.
The number of vehicles torched increased to 1,173, from 984 the previous New Year's Eve. Authorities reported fewer disturbances in the suburbs and fewer attacks against law enforcement.
Police officers were targeted with fireworks in various cities, including Nice, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Rennes. Approximately 90,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized.
In Paris, 125 people were arrested and remanded in custody for various offenses, including violence and possession of psychotropic substances.
