France: Prime Minister Bairou to Seek Confidence Vote

French Prime Minister François Bairou has announced that he will seek a vote of confidence from Parliament on September 8. This is in an effort to secure support for his government's budget, which has been met with opposition.

Bairou is proposing spending cuts of over 40 billion euros, which has displeased both left-wing and right-wing parties.

National Rally leader Jordan Bardella announced that his party will vote against the government. The Greens and La France Insoumise are also expected to oppose Bairou.

Socialist MP Arthur Delaporte stated that he does not see how his party could give a vote of confidence. The votes of the Socialists are critical for the survival of the Bairou government.

Bairou's proposals include the abolition of two public holidays and the freezing of social welfare spending and tax brackets in 2026 at 2025 levels.
