France: Streamers on Trial for Death of 46-Year-Old in Live Broadcast

Two streamers in France are on trial for the death of a 46-year-old man during a live broadcast. Jean Pormanove died in August 2025 after a 12-day live stream featuring violence and humiliation.
Owen Chennadotti and Safin Hamadi, known as Naruto and Safine online, will be tried on July 6, 2026, in Nice. The charges include violence against Jean Pormanove and a second victim.
The investigation began in 2024 following complaints about videos showing Pormanove being insulted and assaulted. The streamers were initially detained in January 2025 and later released.
The Paris prosecutor's office has also requested arrest warrants for the managers of the Australian platform Kick, which hosted the streamers' activities. Kick, a competitor to Twitch, is popular due to its more relaxed approach to content control and the ability for streamers to keep 95% of their earnings.
