Germany Deports 43 Migrants to Iraq

Germany deported 43 migrants to Iraq on Tuesday, according to the Interior Ministry in Berlin. The deportation flight, destined for Baghdad, was confirmed by authorities.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt advocates a stricter approach to migration and stated that this flight is part of the new policies. He has called for more repatriations and agreements with third countries outside the EU.
The 43 men, according to Thuringian authorities, were unmarried, and some had been convicted of criminal offenses. In 2023, Germany deported 816 Iraqis, while in February, 47 people were deported from Hanover.
The situation in Iraq remains tense, with 1.2 million internally displaced persons and 3 million dependent on humanitarian aid, according to the UN. A 2023 IOM survey showed that many returnees intend to migrate again.
