Germany: Police fatally shoot Afghan man after knife attack

A 27-year-old Afghan man was killed by police in Baden-Württemberg after he attacked a police officer with a knife. The incident occurred in Wagen near Stuttgart, during an arrest operation related to the man's previous conviction for assault and battery.
According to the Ulm prosecutor's office, the man resisted arrest and attacked with a knife, injuring the officer. Police returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker. The injured officer is hospitalized and out of danger.
The state's Interior Minister, Tokmas Strobl (CDU), stated that knife attacks have increased recently and emphasized that the use of service weapons was in accordance with established procedures.
The 27-year-old was an Afghan national and asylum seeker, residing in a special facility in Baden-Württemberg.
