The German cabinet has decided to use an electronic bracelet for perpetrators of domestic violence.

Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig stated that the goal is to better protect women. The device will notify the victim and the police if the perpetrator approaches her.

Additionally, the court may order the perpetrator to attend social behavior or violence prevention classes, while penalties are increased from two to three years in prison.

Ms. Hubig mentioned that the Spanish model is considered a standard, which has also been adopted by Switzerland and France. According to data from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), 171,069 incidents of domestic violence were recorded in 2024, of which 135,714 were women.
