Germany: Violence and Extremism Scandal in Paratrooper Unit

The commander of the German army has expressed his “shock” at the incidents of violence and extremism in a paratrooper unit. Allegations include sexual abuse, far-right extremism, and drug use.
General Karsten Breuer stated that sexual violence, extremism, drug abuse, or discrimination in the Armed Forces will not be tolerated. The case has caused increased pressure on the army, as Germany begins registering all 18-year-olds to increase the size of the armed forces.
The scandal was revealed after reports from female soldiers of the 26th Parachute Regiment regarding numerous cases of abuse. The regiment's missions included assisting in the evacuation of German and other foreign nationals from Sudan.
