Japan: Young Man Strips Naked in Front of Emperor

A young man in his 20s stripped naked in front of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and his family during the Emperor's New Year's address. The incident occurred while the Emperor was greeting the crowd from a palace balcony.

According to Japanese media reports, the man, who was in the front row, threw off his clothes and began shouting. He then climbed over the security fence and was arrested by the Imperial Guard and police officers.

Sources close to the investigation report that the young man had announced his intentions on social media.

The Imperial Family in Japan has no political role but remains an important symbol of the country.
