Life Sentence for French 'Dr. Death' for Poisoning Patients

A 53-year-old French anesthesiologist, Frédéric Péchier, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for deliberately poisoning 30 patients, resulting in the deaths of 12. The case spans from 2008 to 2017 and took place in two private clinics in Besançon, eastern France.
Prosecutors described Péchier as 'Dr. Death' and 'one of the greatest criminals in the history of French Justice.' Prosecutor Christine de Quirais stated that Péchier had a 'perverse need for power' and poisoned patients to cope with his own feelings of inadequacy.
Péchier denied all charges. During the trial, more than 70 incidents of 'serious adverse events' were examined. One of the victims was Teddy, who suffered two cardiac arrests during a simple tonsil surgery at the age of four.
