Spain: Evacuations Due to Fire in Tarifa – Hotels and Campsites Evacuated

A fire that broke out near Tarifa, in Andalusia, Spain, led to the evacuation of seven hotels and two campsites. Authorities also removed over 5,000 vehicles.
The Minister of the Interior of Andalusia, Antonio Sanz, stated that the evacuation was imperative and carried out in record time. 17 aerial assets are participating in the firefighting operations.
The fire started in a camping-caravan area on Mount La Peña and spread quickly due to strong winds. A major coastal road has been closed for 9 kilometers.
Tarifa, with a population of approximately 19,000, sees its population double in the summer. Spain is facing a heatwave, and the risk of fires remains very high.
