Spain: One Dead, Thousands Evacuated Due to Wildfires

Wildfires in Spain have caused the death of a 68-year-old man in Madrid, who suffered burns to 98% of his body. The fire, which broke out in Tres Cantos, was brought under control but caused the evacuation of 180 people from their homes and burned over 10,000 acres.
In total, approximately 100,000 acres of forest have been burned, and over 2,200 residents have been forced to evacuate. Fires are also raging in Cádiz, León, Zamora, Ourense, and Madrid. Particular concern is raised by the fire in the Las Médulas area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Additionally, 850 residents evacuated four villages in Zamora due to the fire in Molezuelas de la Carballeda, while 2,000 people were evacuated from Sierra de la Plata. The European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) reports that nearly 120,000 acres have burned in Spain this year.
