Spain: Over 1,000 Evacuated Due to Wildfires – Arson Suspected?

Wildfires in northwestern Spain, fueled by extreme temperatures and strong winds, led to the evacuation of over 1,000 people on Sunday. The fires threaten a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Approximately 400 residents were evacuated from the Carucedo community, while 700 were evacuated from areas near Las Médulas, known for its Roman gold mines. Las Médulas is a UNESCO protected monument.
The regional governor of Castile and León, Alfonso Mañueco, stated that some fires appear to have been caused by arson, warning that they will be relentless against the perpetrators.
Fires were also recorded in the provinces of Galicia and Navarre, with temperatures around 40°C. Civil protection issued a warning for a high risk of fires.
