A new historic heat record has been recorded in Turkey, with temperatures reaching 50.5 degrees Celsius in the Silopi region. The Turkish Ministry of Environment announced that meteorologists recorded this temperature on Friday, surpassing the country's previous record.

According to the announcement, 132 meteorological stations across Turkey recorded record temperatures for the month of July. Silopi, located in the Şırnak province, is just 10 kilometers from the borders with Iraq and Syria.

Turkey is facing a severe heatwave while also battling fires in various regions. In Karabük province, firefighters have been trying for four days to control a major fire, forcing the evacuation of several villages. Additionally, on Wednesday, ten people lost their lives while extinguishing a fire in Eskişehir province.

The heatwave has led some local authorities to impose restrictions on water consumption, such as in the coastal resort of Çeşme.
