Strong Earthquake off the Coast of Crete

A strong earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Crete early Friday, April 24. According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 25 kilometers south-southwest of Goudauras, Lasithi, with a focal depth of 9.7 km.
The president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas, stated that the earthquake was shallow and likely felt in Kasos and Karpathos. He added that it was particularly felt throughout Lasithi and the rest of Crete.
A 3.9 magnitude aftershock was later recorded.
