Italy: Nine Arrests for Financially Supporting Hamas

In an operation by the Italian police, nine people were arrested on charges of financing Hamas with 7 million euros.

According to the Italian judiciary, the funds were sent through organizations active in the field of volunteer work. Among those arrested is Mohammad Hanoun, president of the Association of Palestinians in Italy.

Prosecutors state that the financing system operated for 20 years. Hanoun allegedly used over 70% of the funds raised to support Hamas.

The operation was coordinated by the National Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Directorate, in collaboration with the Genoa Prosecutor's Office.
