Severe weather is currently affecting Greece since Saturday night. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued a new "red alert," updating the Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena.

Strong phenomena accompanied by winds of 8-9 Beaufort and possible hailstorms are expected in many areas. Heavy snowfall will occur in the mountainous and northern semi-mountainous areas, as well as in areas of eastern Macedonia and Thrace at low altitudes from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning (02-02-26).

Areas under "red alert":

  • Thessaly
  • Pieria, Imathia, Chalkidiki (Central Macedonia)
  • Eastern Aegean

Areas under "orange alert":

  • Peloponnese
  • Ionian Islands (Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos)
  • Crete (western and southern parts)
  • Western Sterea
  • Other areas of Central Macedonia
  • Eastern Sterea (including Attica) and Evia
  • Dodecanese

The highest rainfall was recorded in Zagora, Pelion (99.2mm) and Rizomata, Imathia (73.6 mm). In Attica, the highest rainfall was recorded in Vlychada (40.6 mm), Spata (28.8 mm), Nea Makri (25.4 mm) and Pallini (25.2 mm).
