Colombian Soldiers Accused of Torturing and Killing Civilian

Nine members of the Colombian military have been arrested in connection with the torture and murder of a civilian at a military base in northwestern Colombia. A lieutenant, a sergeant, and seven soldiers have been taken into custody.
The incident occurred in the rural municipality of Frontino, Antioquia, when soldiers captured a man who was 'wandering' near the base. The 'excessive use of force' led to his death. The victim was a farmer living in the area.
The soldiers are now under investigation for homicide, torture, and forced disappearance. The army condemned the actions of its members and assured that it would not tolerate such behavior.
This incident highlights the long history of extrajudicial executions in Colombia during the civil war, despite the 2016 peace agreement.
