The Dutch royal family is facing criticism for spending eight weeks in Greece, residing in a luxurious villa in Kranidi, Peloponnese. Their extended absence has sparked reactions in the Netherlands, with comparisons being drawn to other European monarchs who stay in their respective countries during the summer.

In 2012, the royal family purchased the villa in Kranidi, valued at 5 million euros, after selling their holiday home in Mozambique. Since then, their summer vacations in Greece have often been accompanied by criticism.

Royal analyst Jeroen Snel stated that it would send a positive message to the people if the royal family spent part of their vacation in the Netherlands. The palace responded that the king is available 24/7 and will return to The Hague in the event of a national crisis.

The villa in Kranidi, near Spetses, covers an area of 4,000 square meters and offers views of the Aegean Sea. In 2020, the royal family's trip to Greece amid the pandemic caused strong reactions, resulting in them returning hastily and issuing an apology.
