Canada School Shooting: 18-Year-Old Transgender Perpetrator

An 18-year-old transgender individual is reported to be the perpetrator of a shooting at a school in Tumbler Ridge, Canada. Police identified the shooter as **Jesse van Rutschelaar**, who was born biologically male and had begun transitioning six years ago.
The attack resulted in eight fatalities, including the perpetrator's **mother and half-brother**. **Jesse van Rutschelaar** took her own life at the scene. Authorities revised the death toll, correcting an earlier report of nine victims.
Police had been called to the family's residence in the past for mental health incidents. Two weapons, a rifle and a handgun, were found at the school. **Darian Quist**, a student at the school, described the lockdown situation experienced by the students.
