Major Fires in Achaia and Zakynthos, Villages Evacuated

Major fires are raging in Achaia and Zakynthos, with authorities ordering the evacuation of villages. Strong winds are hampering firefighting efforts.

In Achaia, the fire started in Flogeraika and spread quickly. Two people were injured in Moireika. 50 firefighters with 18 vehicles are operating, and reinforcements have arrived with 8 aircraft and 2 helicopters. An evacuation order was issued for 16 settlements, including Moireika, Palaia Peristera, Haikali, Agios Stefanos, Theriano, Kamenitsa, Achaiko, Alissos, Lousika, and Spaliareika.

In Zakynthos, the fire is raging near Koiliomenos and threatens Agalas. 35 firefighters with 13 vehicles, 5 aircraft, and 3 helicopters are operating. Reinforcements are expected by ferry from Kyllini.

Additionally, fires are in progress in Vonitsa and Preveza, where strong firefighting forces are also operating. In Vonitsa, a house was reported to have burned down. There is also a front in Chios.
