Milan: Corruption Scandal in Urban Planning - Skyscrapers Built Without Permits

A major corruption scandal has erupted in Milan, focusing on the Urban Planning department. Allegations suggest that skyscrapers were being built with self-declarations instead of building permits, bypassing legal procedures.
The case began when a seven-story apartment building was constructed in a narrow inner courtyard, sparking resident protests. Investigations revealed that the construction of modern "towers" required only simple approval from the municipal environmental committee, without substantial oversight.
So far, 74 judicial summonses for corruption have been issued. Mayor Beppe Sala denies the charges but is alleged to have supported entrepreneurs promoting private interests. The case also touches the Meloni government, as legislation had been promoted to "over-simplify" procedures for buildings over 25 meters, which ultimately failed.
The investigation extends to plans for the new "San Siro" stadium. Citizens who had paid deposits for apartments in the skyscrapers have been left without housing, as construction sites have been seized. The city is considered to have sacrificed its soul for profit.
