The wife of the French President, Brigitte Macron, has won a legal victory after 10 people were convicted for spreading false claims that she was born a man. The convicted individuals, 8 men and 2 women, were found guilty of online harassment.

The sentences imposed range from mandatory awareness education on online bullying to suspended prison sentences of up to 8 months.

Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron had filed a defamation lawsuit in the U.S. against influencer Candace Owens, who spread the claim that Brigitte Macron was born a man. The couple submitted documents and photos from her pregnancy to refute the claims.

Among those convicted is 51-year-old Delphine Zegoug, known as Amandine Roy, a medium and author, who allegedly played a key role in spreading the rumor through a YouTube video in 2021. Zegoug was sentenced to six months' suspended imprisonment.

Brigitte Macron, originally Brigitte Auzière, met Emmanuel Macron when he was a high school student and she already had three children from a previous marriage. Macron supported his wife during the online campaign against her.
