A Ukrainian man, suspected of coordinating the team that carried out the sabotage on the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea in 2022, has been arrested in Italy, according to the German federal prosecutor's office.

"The German federal prosecutor's office proceeded with the arrest based on a European arrest warrant for the Ukrainian citizen Serhii K. by the Italian police, in the province of Rimini, Italy," the statement said.

Serhii K. is allegedly one of the organizers of the sabotage operation. According to the statement, he and his accomplices sailed from Rostock, in northeastern Germany, on a sailboat that had been rented by a German company using fake identities.

The Carabinieri arrested the suspect in the province of Rimini on the Adriatic coast.
