A technical error in a Norsk Tipping lottery in Norway led thousands of citizens to falsely believe they had won significant sums of money. The incident prompted the resignation of the company's CEO.

According to a statement from Norsk Tipping, the error stemmed from a manual mistake in the code converting EuroJackpot prizes from euros to Norwegian kroner. The amount was multiplied by 100 instead of being divided.

Tonje Sagstuen, the company's CEO since September 2023, announced her resignation, taking responsibility for the error. The company held an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Culture to explain the incident.

Several Norwegians stated that they had begun celebrating their erroneous winnings before discovering the mistake.
