World Welcomes 2026 with Celebrations and Hope

Millions around the world welcomed 2026, leaving 2025 behind. The Pacific islands, including Kiritimati, Tonga, and New Zealand, were among the first to celebrate.
In Sydney, Australia, the new year was greeted with a spectacular fireworks display. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese referred to the "sorrow of the year that passed" in a video message.
In Hong Kong, the planned fireworks display was canceled in memory of fire victims. In Seoul, thousands gathered for the traditional bell-ringing ceremony at the Bosingak Pavilion.
Celebrations also took place at the Great Wall of China, while in Croatia, the countdown in the town of Fuzine took place at noon, with the bravest ones diving into the icy waters of Lake Bajer.
In New York, final preparations were made for the annual ball drop in Times Square. US President Donald Trump sent a message of confidence via Truth Social.
