Prince William to Move to Forest Lodge: Concerns for Buckingham Palace

Prince William is preparing to move to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom mansion in Windsor, west of London. This move has raised concerns about the future of Buckingham Palace, which has been the official residence of the British monarchy since 1837.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the family will move later this year. If the future king and his family permanently settle in Windsor, Buckingham Palace could cease to be the official residence.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams expressed his concern, saying it would be a "disaster if Buckingham were sidelined." The palace, with its 755 rooms, is a popular tourist attraction and the "heart" of the British monarchy.

King Charles, however, does not reside at Buckingham Palace due to renovations expected to last until 2027. Although he has stated his intention to use it as his base in London, he prefers Clarence House.

Daily Mail columnist Amanda Platell wrote that a "part-time future king hiding in Forest Lodge... could lead to a drop in support from his subjects."
