A 53-year-old Syrian man, Khaled al-Najjar, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the Netherlands for the murder of his 18-year-old daughter, Rayan, in a so-called honor killing. His two sons were sentenced to 20 years in prison for their involvement in the crime.

Rayan had adopted a more Western lifestyle, refusing to wear a hijab and actively using social media, which her family considered 'shameful.' The father allegedly tied up and drowned the 18-year-old.

The court ruled that the sons actively participated in transporting Rayan to the scene of the murder, knowing their father's intentions. The case has shocked the public due to the cruelty of the act.

Authorities found the father's DNA under Rayan's fingernails, indicating that she tried to defend herself. The father remains at large.
