Olympic swimming champion Yannick Agnel will stand trial in France for the rape of his coach's 13-year-old daughter. The case concerns alleged incidents that occurred in 2016.

An investigating magistrate in Mulhouse ordered the 33-year-old champion to stand trial. Agnel claimed the relationship was consensual, but the court rejected his appeal.

Yannick Agnel, a two-time Olympic champion in London 2012, faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years. The alleged incidents took place in Mulhouse, Thailand, and Rio de Janeiro.

The investigation began in 2021 following a complaint by the young woman. Agnel allegedly confessed to the acts but denies coercion.
