Hungarian PM Orbán: EU is disintegrating, we should not adopt the euro

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that his country should not adopt the euro as the European Union is "disintegrating". In an interview, Orbán, who has been in power since 2010, pointed out that Hungary should not tie its fate more closely to the EU.
Hungary, although heavily dependent on trade with EU member states and having modernized its economy with EU funds, does not currently meet the criteria for adopting the euro. Orbán is a strong critic of the EU, which has suspended the disbursement of billions of euros to Hungary due to disagreements regarding the rule of law.
Orbán's comments contrast with the agenda of his political opponent, Péter Magyar, who advocates lifting the suspension of European funding and bringing Hungary closer to adopting the euro. Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for the spring of 2026.
