Ukraine: Zelenskyy Dismisses Odesa Mayor Over Russian Citizenship
Share on:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the mayor of Odesa, citing Russian citizenship. Serhiy Lysak, former governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, has been appointed as his replacement.

Gennadiy Trukhanov, first elected in 2014, denies holding Russian citizenship and has appealed to the courts. He had also condemned the "de-Russification" movement after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Lysak will head the newly established military administration, a practice implemented during wartime, granting the president increased powers over local authorities.
