Eleven people have died in flash floods in northwestern Pakistan at the start of the monsoon season. The local disaster management authority announced that the victims include three children and three women, while six people were injured.

According to the regional authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 56 houses were damaged and six were completely destroyed. Ten of the fatalities were reported in the Swat Valley, where rising river levels swept away families.

The national meteorological service warns of torrential rains and flash floods until Tuesday. Pakistan is considered particularly vulnerable to climate change.
